In this course, instructional strategies for teaching literacy and numeracy skills in a outcomes-based learning environment are explored. The role of technology, training plans and goal-directed learning in both one-to-one and group settings are used to frame the use of various instructional strategies.

Upon completion of this module participants should be able to develop and apply instructional strategies that respond to the reading, writing and numeracy needs of the individual learner.

UNIT OUTCOMES
UNIT ONE: PLANNING FOR LEARNING
Successful completion of this unit will enable the participant to gain an understanding of the factors that influence or shape the development of instructional strategies.
UNIT TWO: APPROACHES TO READING
Successful completion of this unit will enable the participant to create and use instructional strategies that will help adult learners improve their reading skills.
UNIT THREE: APPROACHES TO WRITING
Successful completion of this unit will enable the participant to create and use instructional strategies that will help adult learners improve their writing skills.
UNIT FOUR: APPROACHES TO NUMERACY
Successful completion of this unit will enable the participant to use to create and use instructional strategies that will help adult learners improve their numeracy skills.
ASSIGNMENTS & LEARNING ACTIVITIES
To successfully complete each unit of Applied Strategies for Literacy and Numeracy Instruction course participants must complete a number of learning activities and a number of assignments. The value or weight assigned to each of these activities will be set by the course instructor. Also, the course facilitator or instructor and/or delivery agency may have additional requirements.
MODULE DEMONSTRATION ACTIVITY
In addition to the successful completion of the learning activities for each unit, this course requires you to complete a demonstration activity. The demonstration is the method by which you will show that you have met the overall course outcome. In other words, to show you have learned what you set out to learn as a participant in this course.
